Old Car and Bike rambling

A few seasons ago, I re-installed the original 4 into 4 chrome pipes that came with the bike when it was purchased new because I wanted to paint the 4 -2 - 1 pipes that were flaking badly and generally looking terrible. I loved how the 4 mufflers looked from behind but was not crazy about the additional weight. They must have weighed about 60 lbs and I noticed that the engine didn't quite rev as freely as when I was running the 4-2-1 exhaust. I finally got around to painting the exhaust and reinstalling them and was reminded how much I disliked the exhaust note.  There was a hollow ringing sound that I didn't like when blipping the throttle. Since I was re-installing the 4-2-1 exhaust I had to hear it without the muffler just to get a baseline and it was definitely too loud for me, but what was worse, it seemed like the engine was a little more sluggish and resistant to revving.
